“Skeptics are critical of of religious education because they believe that it promotes premature commitment, leaving little room for the consideration of moral issues on their own terms. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who advised that children be allowed to grow up free of religious instruction until they were able to decide moral issues on their own therms, expressed this view in its most extreme form. Today it is one reason why some people believe that education should be a religion-free zone.” (Walter Feinberg: For Goodness Sake: Religious Schools and Education for Democratic Citizenry)
